The Panelled Rose

We worked closely alongside the customer to design a surround to complement the existing wooden paneling exposed on all of the walls. The room in question was not oversized but had lovely high ceilings.

The surround was made out of 3" thick stone to create a slim line effect, so not to over power the room. The top part of the surround was paneled out to replicate the wooden panels. (This is difficult to see on the photograph)

We decided on a square opening to complement the design and determine crisp, neat lines, this also prevented the eye being deterred from the panel. A thin 2" mantle was inserted between the lintel and panel. It was established that the height of the stone would be aesthetically pleasing for the top mantle to run into the top of the wooden paneling. This produced a 6" shelf.

The completed fire surround achieved it's desired objective - to compliment the existing wood paneling in the room.

The tall slender effect gives it an elegant yet substantial look while the red brick lining helps to contrast the large surface area of stone.
