No 2. The Winter Warmer

This property was newly built out of Stone which was reclaimed from the existing buildings on site.

Ken Howe Natural Stone Supplies were involved with the construction from the onset. We supplied Stone window surrounds, Quoins, and a range of feature Stonework. The customer had a picture of this period inspired fire surround which had been cut from a magazine. The picture showed a fire surround in the Arts and Crafts movement which was 2 floors high, with a magnificent staircase encompassing it.

The customer presented the picture to us and asked if it would be possible for us to recreate it in a living room. We had to reduce it drastically in size without losing the proportion or style.

It was fitted with a multi fuel stove and was extremely successful. To add to this the customer designed his lighting to complement the piece and create amazing shadows.

Our fire surrounds such as in this picture of an original Arts and Crafts period fire surround show how scaled down versions of existing grand designs can be expertly recreated. This fire surround was built to form a structural support to the chimney breast. It has columns either side supporting a mantle and canopy.
